Christy Calbos is an experienced education attorney who represents special needs students in Georgia public schools.
Admitted to the Georgia Bar in 1997 and in private practice representing families since 2011, she brings unique expertise and experience to her practice, having represented multiple California, Florida and Georgia school districts prior to representing families with special needs children.
Ms. Calbos has an in-depth understanding of schools’ perspectives which helps her strategize with families. She represents special needs students for students ages 3 to 22 in public schools by ensuring they receive appropriate education and services through IEPs and 504 Plans.
Prior to advocating for special needs children, Ms. Calbos was an associate at Brock, Clay, Calhoun & Rogers (now Gregory Doyle) and provided special education legal advice and litigation services to Fulton, Cobb, and Clayton County School Districts. She also litigated due process hearings as well as managed special education files and represented districts in mediations and resolution sessions. Ms. Calbos investigated and defended Office of Civil Rights (OCR) and state Department of Education complaints against the school districts and conducted trainings and in-service workshops to districts on all aspects of federal and state special education laws.
Ms. Calbos also worked at The Weatherly Law Firm where she litigated high profile special education cases on behalf of school districts throughout the southeast and California. In addition, Ms. Calbos represented southern California school districts and public educational agencies in all aspects of special education litigation and consultation, including mediations, due process hearings, and federal court litigation. She investigated and defended agency complaints, as well as provided legal assistance, training, and in-services on federal, state, and local special education statutes, regulations, policies and procedures.
Further, Ms. Calbos worked at California-based law firm Ropers Majeski where she conducted insurance defense litigation with an emphasis on premises liability, employment, and corporate litigation. She previously served as a prosecutor in Cobb and Coweta counties in Georgia.
