Christy Calbos has practiced special education law exclusively since 2003 and is one of Georgia’s most experienced attorneys in this field.
A graduate of the University of Georgia for both undergraduate and law school, Christy was admitted to the Georgia Bar in 1997. She began her legal career as a prosecutor in Coweta and Cobb Counties before transitioning into civil litigation and school law.
From 2003 to 2011, Christy represented public school districts in California, Florida, and Georgia in high-profile special education matters. She litigated due process hearings, defended state and federal agency complaints (including Office for Civil Rights investigations), managed complex special education files, and provided training to school administrators and staff on federal and state special education laws.
She served as special education counsel to Fulton, Cobb, and Clayton County School Districts, giving her deep insight into how school systems evaluate cases, assess risk, and approach litigation.
In 2011, Christy shifted her practice to represent families. She now devotes her work exclusively to helping parents advocate for students with disabilities in IEP and 504 matters across Georgia.
Her background representing school districts provides parents with a strategic advantage: she understands both sides of the table.
"She takes the time to get to know her clients and listens to her clients and is very compassionate about the children that she represents..." ~T.S., parent
"We would highly recommend her to any family needing assistance with the legal area of special needs and education law." ~A.S., parent
"I want you to know you are a great attorney and we appreciate you A LOT. I was a wreck when I initially reached out to you for help. You went to bat for us and thank you for that. You also continue to provide advice...it is appreciated and well received." ~Y.R., parent
